The James L. Tiptree Jr. Awards are presented annually for works of speculative fiction which address gender issues. The awards were started after WisCon 15 (1991) when, in her Guest of Honor speech, Pat Murphy talked about the lack of a science fiction awards named after a woman. The awards are named for SF author James L. Tiptree, Jr.
