Internalized sexism is a term for sexist stereotypes about or behavior towards people from other people of the same sex or gender.
Internalized sexism is quite common among geek women. Many have an ambiguous relationship with stereotypically feminine traits and women-dominated areas of interest and some come to internalize the idea that doing certain women-associated things is a marker of low status or competence, or that women are largely harming themselves with their behavior and justifying or creating discrimination from men.
