Atheism and skepticism are two overlapping geek communities, with many prominent writers identifying with both communities, overlapping conferences and similar.

The atheist position denies the existence of the supernatural and of gods. The skeptical position holds that beliefs should be well-supported by the evidence. In the geek community form skepticism usually involves a high respect for rigourous scientific inquiry and evidence and a low respect for other origins of beliefs. It is possible to hold one position but not the other, and both positions can be held as private belief systems, but this article deals largely with the geek communities that are organised around and activists for these principles.

The visible atheism and skepticism communities have low numerical representation of women.
